TOEFL score converter: 1–6 band ↔ 0–120
From January 2026 the TOEFL iBT® test reports a 1–6 band score. For a two-year transition, score reports also reference the previous 0–120 scale, so most people need to move between the two. Convert either way below — and see the matching CEFR level.

I have a 1–6 band score
Pick a band to get the old-scale range.
A band covers a span of old-scale points, so converting a band to 0–120 gives a range rather than one number. Universities set their own entry requirements — always check what your target institution asks for.

Common questions
What is a band 4 equal to?
Roughly 72–85 on the old 0–120 scale, and CEFR B2 (upper-intermediate) — the level many undergraduate programmes ask for.
Which score will my university want?
During the transition, most institutions still publish requirements on the 0–120 scale and use this concordance to read band scores across. Your score report references both, so you can quote whichever the university lists.
Are section scores converted the same way?
The concordance above is for the overall score. Sections are reported on the same 1–6 band scale, with the old per-section scale running 0–30.
